Sony Ericsson Announced New Xperia X8 and Xperia Upgrade to X10, X10 mini, X10 mini pro

The new Xperia X8 comes in a dimension of 99 x 54 x 15 mm and weight of 104 g. It sports a 3-inch 320 x 480 pixels (HVGA) capacitive scratch-resistant touchscreen, 3.2 MP camera with the function of instant upload to Facebook, 2 GB microSD card, up to 128 MB of phone memory, and supports microSD up to 16GB. Running on Google Android Donut, version 1.6, it is equipped with 600MHz Qualcomm processor and is capable of Geo tagging and Wi-Fi among others.

It is announced to be available in selected markets from Q3 in the colours White, Dark Blue/ White, Aqua Blue/ White, Pink/ White, Silver/ White.

The bigger news seems to be the upgrade (in selected markets) from Q3 2010 for Xperia X10, X10 mini and X10 mini pro smartphones for them to run on Android 2.1. As part of the upgrade, Xperia’s flagship model with 4-inch display, the X10 will also be getting HD video recording capability followed in Q4 by a further upgrade that will enable it to connect wirelessly to TV and display content as well as enhancements to the Timescape and Mediascape applications.

This is fun. You should try XpressAlarm for your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic or N97. When someone is trying to steal your precious phone suddenly the car-alarm-like sound siren.

XpressAlarm is a new free application for Nokia 5800 and N97, which helps to protect your phone against theft.In order application to work you need to have at least version 1.9.4. of Python installed.You can download and learn how to install here.

BlackBerry Pearl for Pinky Lovers

RIM’s response to the market-share-gulping iPhone is to try to appeal to the female consumer by splashing pink paint all over the BlackBerry Pearl, a candy bar-shaped e-mail phone stuffed with multimedia goodies, exposing itself to shoppers’ fickle tastes and competition from Apple’s (AAPL.O) iPhone.

Its devices now include more “lifestyle” features like television, music players, cameras and Facebook social-networking software for broad appeal.

“I think the whole social networking phenomenon is quite substantial,” RIM’s co-Chief Executive, Jim Balsillie, told Reuters in an interview.

His comment highlights a big shift for the Canadian company, which first made its name supplying blocky handsets that executives, lawyers and politicians used to send secure e-mails to their offices and clients.

The departure from that mainstay has produced strong early results, as RIM added BlackBerry subscribers at a rapid clip and posted profits that consistently beat analysts’ expectations.

More than a third of RIM’s subscribers are now classified as noncorporate or non-government. The company had a total of 12 million users at the end of the quarter ended December 1.

The Pearl, the main product in the consumer push, looks more like a regular cell phone than the traditional BlackBerry. Launched in 2006 at around $200, some carriers now give it away as part of a long-term service contract, while declining plan prices are making the gadget more affordable.

The retail effort reached a critical milestone on November’s Black Friday, the day after U.S. Thanksgiving that marks the start of the holiday shopping season. It was, for the first time, RIM’s strongest single day for net subscriber additions.

The strategy has also put the company in head-on competition with the iPhone, launched in the United States at the end of June. However, RIM has insisted it has nothing to worry about, and Balsillie shrugged off talk that Apple may target business clients.

“Apple is certainly free to innovate and come into the market, but they are particularly strong in the consumer side,” he said. “Who knows if they can come across to enterprise?”

U.S. RECESSION WORRIES

Some analysts say retail and corporate customers could scale back BlackBerry spending if the United States, RIM’s biggest market, slips into a recession.

“Part of what they have going for them is that they have a desirable product, so that’ll help,” Deutsche Bank analyst Brian Modoff said of RIM. He added: “That doesn’t mean that the rate of growth doesn’t slow.”

After more than quadrupling in value since mid-2006, RIM shares are down more than 15 percent so far this year.

Canaccord Adams analyst Peter Misek this month bestowed a rare rating cut on the stock. He reduced the shares to “hold” from “buy” because of concerns about the U.S. economy and that its weakness might lead corporate clients to delay buying newer BlackBerry models.

Balsillie said economic turbulence in the United States should have a limited negative effect on RIM. As for retail consumers, he thinks they are more likely to defer larger purchases like cars or houses rather than part with the BlackBerry.

“The cell phone is kind of one of the last things people give up,” he said.

Mobile phones are no longer seen as luxury items, Research Capital analyst Nick Agostino noted.

“Today, it’s the exact opposite,” he said. “It’s almost like a safety blanket, just knowing that you can be reached and you can reach someone at any given time has now become a necessity in society.”

It’s more choices to choose. Pink is good, my daughter love pink a lot and she’s toddler. It will be more plus, if there’s something new in the BlackBerry Pearl, not only the pink color.

Sony Ericsson C905, 8 Mpix Camera Phone with Geo-tagging Coming to U.S. in Q2 2009

Sony Ericsson will put a serious effort to promote its Cyber-shot camera phones in the US, starting the second quarter of 2009.The Sony Ericsson has seen strong international sales of its Cybershotcamera phones and Walkman music phones, but has yet to make big inroads in the U.S. market.

The Cyber-shot phone should be sold for $199 to $249 if a North American carrier decides to offer it with a 2-yr contract agreement. And that carrier is likely to be AT&T – just like Sony Ericsson C905a with AT&T some time ago.
