Now there are many home users with always-on Internet connections such as DSL and cable modems. In another situation it could be like you’re in a hotel room with your MacBook and your roommate’s got a laptop PC and there’s only one Ethernet jack? If you have an iPhone or other Wi-Fi enabled device ?

What do you do? Get to sharing the internet love, that’s what you do !

Sharing internet connection wirelessly might seem like a much smarter alternative than using an expensive wireless router, but it does have a couple of disadvantages:

If the computer connected to the Internet is shut down, all computers that are part of the ad hoc network lose their Internet access.

To connect to the Internet, one computer always needs a wired network connection.

There is two options sharing the internet wirelessly either from Mac or Windows. Actually three options because I want to shared both from Windows Vista and XP.

To keep it short, here’s what you need to do …

From MacBook

1.In System Preferences, go to Sharing and on the Internet tab, click the source (Built-in Ethernet) and the way the other computer will connect (for wifi, AirPort). Then click the Start button.

This’ll set up a wireless connection between your Mac and the PC, and the PC will be able to surf on it via your wired Mac.

2. If you don’t want settings that might interfere with the sharing, just turns out that “Personal Web Sharing” has to be enabled as well on the Services tab.

3. If you don’t want everyone else in the hallway sucking down your bandwidth, click the “Airport Options” button to set a password on your ad-hoc network, before you hit the start button.

You could do this to your Mac mini also.

From Windows Vista Laptop PC

This following setup in order to connect an iPhone wirelessly.
1. Make sure your laptop has built-in WIFI adapter or your USB/PCMCIA wireless network adapter is enabled.
2. Open the Networks and Sharing Center. Under Tasks (left), choose Manage Wireless Networks.

3. In the Manage Wireless Networks window, click Add.

4. Choose “Create an ad hoc network”. Press Next on the next page.

5. On the next page, enter a Network Name of your choice (as “iPhoneNetwork”). This is the network you’ll connect to from your iPhone. Choose WEP for Security Type (you can also choose “No Authentication (Open)”, but this way anyone in your ad hoc wireless network range can connect to your laptop.) Enter a Security Key as instructed, check “Save this network” and click Next.

6. You should get the “Your iPhoneNetwork is ready to use”. Before pressing Close, click on “Turn on Internet Connection sharing”.

7. Select your Local Area Network internet connection you usually use to connect to the internet and press Next. The next page should say “Internet connection sharing is enabled.” Press Close.

Now, your ad hoc network is ready.

The second step is connecting your iPhone to the “iPhoneNetwork” ad hoc wireless network.
1. From your iPhone, open Settings. Choose Wi-Fi.

2. Click on “iPhoneNetwork” and enter the password you defined earlier (Security Key), then press Join. It take you back to the previous screen but with the “iPhoneNetwork” checked.

3. On your notebook, you should see the “Set Network Location” screen. Choose Home or Work, no big deal.

You should open Safari browser and connect directly to the internet. Connect to Google or something to make sure that everything’s fine. And, yes, it’s a little buggy – you’ll sometimes have to do it over and over again!

Now you can access iTunes store or even download/update your iPhone applications directly without needing to do that on iTunes.

From Windows XP Laptop PC

1. Make sure your laptop has built-in WIFI adapter or your USB/PCMCIA wireless network adapter is enabled.
2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

3. Under Pick a category, click Network and Internet Connections.

4. Under or pick a Control Panel icon, click Network Connections.

5. Right-click your wireless network connection, and then click Properties.

6. In the Wireless Network Connection Properties dialog box, click the Wireless Networks tab.

7. On the Wireless Networks tab, under Preferred networks, click Add.

8. In the Wireless network properties dialog box, on the Association tab, type the name of your ad hoc wireless network in Network name (SSID) box (shown in step 10). For example, you could name your wireless network MyHomeNetwork.

9. Clear the The key is provided for me automatically check box and select the This is a computer-to-computer (ad hoc) network check box.

10. Create a 13-digit password and type it in both the Network key and Confirm network key boxes. For the best security, include letters, numbers, and punctuation. Then click OK.

11.Click OK again to save your changes.

Now, your ad hoc network is ready. The second step is to set up additional computers.

If the computer you want to add to your network does not have built-in wireless network support, install a wireless network adapter.

Windows XP automatically detects the new adapter and notifies you that it found a wireless network.

Now connect your computer to your wireless network

Note: These steps apply only if you’re using Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). If you haven’t installed SP2, visit Microsoft Update to install it before connecting to the ad hoc network.

1.Right-click the Wireless Network icon in the lower right corner of your screen, and then click View Available Wireless Networks.

Note: If you run into any problems, consult the documentation that came with your network adapter.

2.The Wireless Network Connection window appears and displays your wireless network listed with the SSID you chose. If you don’t see your network, click Refresh Network List in the upper left corner. Click your network, and then click Connect in the lower right corner.

3. Windows XP prompts you to enter a key. Type your encryption key in both the Network key and Confirm network key boxes, and then click Connect.

Windows XP shows its progress as it connects to your network. After you’re connected, you can close the Wireless Network Connection window.Repeat these three steps on each computer that you want to connect to your ad hoc wireless network.

Now you’re ready to browse the Web wirelessly, from any computer you add to your home network.

Enjoy !

The new 17-inch Unibody MacBook Pro is given a power boost with a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4 GB of RAM right out of the box (with an 8 GB total RAM capacity), and it features the dual graphics processing scheme first offered in last fall’s the 15.4-inch MacBook Pro (with the discrete NVIDIA 9600M GT getting a boost to 512 MB of dedicated video RAM).

The real story about the new 17-inch MacBook Pro, however, is the battery. And that should tell you everything you need to know about the excitement level of this conference. True, the engineering that went into creating this non-removable, extended life battery (with up to 8 hours of battery life when using the integrated NVIDIA 9400M graphics processor) is impressive (and you can read more about it as well as watch a video trumpeting its industrial design at Apple). But you can’t switch batteries and when the battery runs out of cycles (it’s supposed to provide up to 1000 recharges, which Apple estimates to be about 5 years of use), you’ll need to get a replacement battery from Apple for a $179 charge.

Wes Williams, a Lenovo segment manager said :

“People that use high-end computers, whether they are professional photographers or work in other fields, all use two displays at their desktops. What we were trying to do in building a mobile workstation is give them the same experience. Not only do you need a great display, great graphics, great processor and RAID hard drive with a workstation, but it is hard going back to a single display mode”.

The ThinkPad W700ds is the first mobile workstation to deliver:

Intel Core 2 Extreme processors

High-capacity RAID HDDs

Integrated color calibration

Onboard digitizer and pen

The Lenovo ThinkPad W700ds offers the same type of features found in the original W700.Lenovo is offering the option to order the workstation laptop with a lower-cost Intel Core 2 Quad processor running at 2.26GHz,including an Nvidia Quadro FX 3700M graphics processor, 8GB of DDR3 (double data rate 3) RAM and dual integrated hard disk drives that can be configured in a RAID array. The mobile workstation still uses about 75 watts of power and gets about 2 hours of battery life, although if a user runs the display at half brightness, the battery life extends to 3.5 hours.

The ThinkPad W700 also features three video ports that support dual-link DVI (Digital Video Interactive), Display Port and VGA, which allows for multiple displays when using a docking stat

With Integrated color calibration W700ds will produces high quality calibrated displays, enables greater image color accuracy, producing a more photo perfect image, uses X-Rite Pantone color sensor and software, delivering a consistent and true display

Integrated WACOM palm rest digitizer and pen with size is 128 cm x 80 cm palm rest digitizer,it will enables users to digitize and manipulate images and configured to map to entire screen or user-defined area. Ideal for digital content creation, CAD/CAM applications, and digital photography

While the starting price of the Lenovo ThinkPad W700 is currently about $2,500, the second display will add about $500 to the base cost. An official starting price has not been set.

Recently Apple shipped 13.3-inch MacBook and 15.4-inch MacBook Pro. What do you expect from new line up of MacBook series ?
13-inch MacBook review :
The most obvious changes are physical. The familiar white-and-black bodies have been replaced with an aluminum chassis that looks nearly identical to the new MacBook Pro, only smaller. Some internet commentators have even referred to the new 13-inch MacBook model as the “MacBook Pro Mini”.
Internally, the big news is an Nvidia chipset with improved integrated graphics, while the “unibody” aluminum chassis, the buttonless (or more accurately, all-button) touch pad, and edge-to-edge
glass on the LED-backlit display are the major physical changes on the outside.
With only two USB 2.0 ports and no more FireWire, the new MacBook isn’t exactly brimming with connections. Personal wishes–an ExpressCard slot and an SD-card reader–have yet to come true,
so photographers (especially those who use equipment with FireWire connections) may be disappointed–or encouraged to spring for a MacBook Pro.
In benchmark tests, the new MacBook and its 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU performed comparably to its predecessor, which is to say that basic multitasking and productivity are a breeze, as is streaming and viewing HD-video content–much as we’d expect from any current Intel Core 2 Duo laptop. While the hardware is largely similar, MacBooks score better on our Multitasking test than similarly configured Windows laptops (such as the Dell Studio 15), thanks in part to the efficiency of the Mac operating system.

Price range $1,299.00-$1,599.00

15-inch MacBook Pro review :
While the aluminum chassis may look the same as previous model MacBook Pros, the construction is entirely different, following the MacBook Air model of starting with a solid block of aluminum, which is carved down, rather than a thin outer shell that has had support struts added to it. The result is a lighter and thinner yet stronger chassis that feels even more solid and substantial, although the previous chassis was very roadworthy on its own. With a 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, the MacBook Pro performed excellently on our standard benchmark tests, but only marginally faster than the previous version of the Pro we tested. MacBooks generally score better on tests than similarly configured windows laptops (such as the Dell Studio 15), thanks in part to the efficiency of the Mac operating system, and the fact that applications such as Quicktime, iTunes, and Photoshop run more quickly on Mac OS X. The slightly faster processor and Nvidia GeForce 9600M GPU made only a minor difference compared with the new 13-inch MacBook.Besides that dedicated GeForce 9600M, the new Pro also included the same integrated GeForce 9400 GPU found in the 13-inch MacBook. The settings menu has two power options: high performance or longer battery life.Choosing high performance turns the 9600 chip on, while choosing longer battery life turns it off, leaving you with just the integrated chip. The MacBook Pro is now the only current Apple laptop with a FireWire 800 port–that connection was unceremoniously dumped from the less expensive 13-inch model.

Price range $1,999.00-$2,499.00

So the choice is yours. Do you need “MacBook Pro Mini” or “the Real MacBook Pro” that go-to for media professionals? As well as Mac fans who want a bigger screen, given the fact that there is less to differentiate the MacBook Pro from the MacBook.
